Steady Rain Only Showed For A Limited Time

Broadway shows are one of Americas greatest past times. One of the best things about Broadway is the variety you get; there is something for everyone. Steady Rain played on Broadway and is one of the most laid back, casual shows to ever appear on stage. Audiences have adored Steady Rain but, surprisingly, critics did not — not in the beginning anyway. Over time the production is receiving more attention and positive reinforcement; however, the production is only scheduled to appear until December, so time is limited to get in.

This particular production is different on so many different levels, one of which is the fact that it is only a two man cast. Another aspect of Steady Rain, that is unique to this production, is the lack of flashiness — no dancers, musical instruments, flashy backdrops, etc. You will see nothing other than two men sitting in one place throughout the whole show. The reason for this is that they are reminiscing about their past and what they have endured with each other; therefore, there is no need for expensive scenery. There are many that, upon first hearing this, thing this to be a boring production; however, it has proven to be one of the most emotional stories, on Broadway, of all times.

Daniel Craig and Hugh Jackman take the role, of the two men in Steady Rain, and run with it. They portray the characters as if they are them. Yes, this is what actors are supposed to do, but they do such a phenomenal job, you forget that it is only a play. These men have been through some of the worst of times, but some of the best as well. This particular story does not take occur in a particular place, yet on an empty set where the men sit — without moving — through the entire play — reliving their experiences of life together. The case of two could not have been picked any better, as Hugh and Daniel were cut out for Steady Rain.

Steady Rain is not the typical type of production that you would see on Broadway. Because of this the production was scheduled for only 12 weeks, beginning in September of 2009 and ending in December of the same year. Reviews, in the beginning, were very negative and the media would not give the production the attention it deserved. However, all of this has changed as of late, and for the good. Critics were drawn into the story, as are all audience members, and feeling the emotion behind that drives it. Jackman and Craig look back on the good and the bad and make you feel as if you there with them.

A few weeks into the show, something obnoxious yet funny happened. A member of the audience forgot to silence his phone which, of course, went off during the production. Hugh and Daniel dealt with this with grace as they casually told the man that there were no worries, they would simply continue their lines when he was done with his call. Even with this distraction the story was still emotional and drew the audience in.

So Close In 2009, The Chicago Cubs Look To Pass St. Louis In 2010

A second place finish in the Central Division lately is about as useful as winning 60 games. The Chicago Cubs are looking to not only put last year’s season behind them, but are looking forward to some dramatic improvements in 2010. St. Louis will once again prove to be their main roadblock and this could be the season that they finally get past them.

How can any team not be excited to have Greg Maddux join their franchise? Here is a pitcher that flat out shut teams down in his prime and was still better than average at the tail end of his career. A disappointing season for him was the same season that half the pitchers in the league would have been happy to have.

While everyone is surely excited to have him there, imagine the young pitchers knowing that they now have Maddux to go to for advice. Even the coach has said that he wants to sit him down and talk to him! Looking back at the success that Piniella has had over the years, that is a pretty hefty compliment.

Once again, the Cubs are going to have an exciting offense on the field. Opposing pitchers will not get a break in a line-up that features Lee, Ramirez and Soriano. There is also plenty of speed throughout with Fukudome, Theriot and Byrd. They are going to give pitchers fits when they get men on base.

Homers keep them coming through the games, but pitching is needed if you are truly going to contend. If Ted Lilly comes off of his surgery and regains his form, this is going to be quite a rotation. Having Lilly and Zambrano taking their turns is enough to make any manager giddy.

The season will start out on the road for Chicago, but they come home pretty early and have a couple of nice series for the fans to see. Milwaukee and Houston should be very beatable and fans are sure to get their money’s worth with these tickets. Look for a lot of balls to be leaving the park in those games.

One thing is for sure, Cubs games are going to be exciting in 2010. The key for them always seems to be health as they have had some horrific luck in this department in past seasons. If this team stays healthy, they are going to give St. Louis a run for the division. With the strength of the East and two contenders in the West, they will need this division crown to get into the playoffs and have every right to expect to get it.

#1 – Advances in Architecture

Gatwick unveiled the world’s first circular airport terminal (named the ‘Beehive’) in 1936. It was an extraordinary achievement, as it was the first terminal to combine literally every necessary stage of air travel. There was a rail link directly to the terminal, and for the first time passengers could directly board their aircraft instead of having to travel across the runway on foot or by bus.

#2 – Private Flying Club

Gatwick was not originally build to be a public airport. In its early years, it was used as a home for a private flying club. The flying club that used it, which was the Surrey Aero Club, became so popular though, and brought so much attention to the airport, that it was soon granted a commercial flying license, which meant that members of the public could fly in and out of it.

#3 – Royal Attentions

Gatwick has been graced on two separate occasions with a Royal presence at important opening ceremonies. Queen Elizabeth II first attended to re-open the airport after it underwent a major redevelopment in 1956, and she returned thirty years later with her husband Prince Phillip to preside over the opening of the new North Terminal.

#4 – World War II

The second World War saw Gatwick become primarily a military airport, to aid Britain with its air to air combat against the deadly German air-force. Planes that were based at and flew from Gatwick airport played a pivotal role in Britain’s success in winning the battle of the skies, which ultimately led to the success of the Allies as a whole.

Can The Cincinnati Reds Get Back To The Days Of The Big Red Machine

Cincinnati sports teams have not exactly been held in high esteem the last few years. The early exit of the Bengals has done nothing to sway that opinion. As the 2010 MLB season looms, fans may finally have something to hope for in Cincinnati. The moves that the Cincinnati Reds have made will make them very competitive and could have them right in the middle of it this year.

One of the first things that lets us know that the Reds mean business this season is the signing of Cuban phenom Aroldis Champman. There were plenty of teams that were going after him, but somehow Cincinnati was able to lure him away and get him in uniform. This is one of the boldest moves in recent times for them and hopefully it will pay off huge.

Even in the worst of seasons, the Cincinnati bullpen has always held their own. The closing duties will be anchored by Cordero who should once again be a stud coming into games in the late innings. He is going to get a lot of help from Burton and the two of them together will lock down a lot of wins if the starters can get into the 8th inning.

Of course, the question that is on everyone’s mind is who is going to get it to them. The reality of the starting rotation is that it is loaded with players that have a lot of talent, but have never seemed to get it focused. Harang is the ideal example as he can be lights out one day and then get knocked around the next. While this is not the Atlanta Braves rotation, it can be respectable if they play to their potential.

Cincinnati is having the same problem at the plate as the ever-talented Jay Bruce struggled throughout the 2009 season. When he first came up in 2008, everyone was expecting the next Albert Pujols. He started off on fire and then slid back. His power numbers are not bad, but he is expected to do more.

Hopefully, he is past the sophomore jinx and will put up huge numbers this season. He has made several appearances throughout the off season and looks be relaxed and ready to get back on the baseball field. If his production level matches his attitude, Cincinnati fans are going to have plenty to cheer about this season.

Seats need to be filled up early as the Reds will kick off their season against St. Louis and Chicago at home. While seasons cannot be won in April, they can be lost. Get that stadium packed and cheer them on past these two divisional foes and get the season started off in the right direction.
